Waves: Survivor App Review
Waves: Survivor is a very entertaining game that puts you in the middle of the ocean with no food, just hope and an occasional mermaid to lend a hand. If you like forward progress games like Dead Runner, Waves: Survivor will give you a paddle for your money with an addicting setup and online leader-boards to motivate you to stay alive longer. Stay afloat and be cautious of the rising and falling tides that carry dangerous puffer fish, piranhas and killer sharks.
This game has simple controls for easy play, a forward and backward paddle button, a pressure sensitive jump button and a wide target area for attacking with the paddle. You start off as a survivor in the middle of the ocean and work your way through the quickly changing days and nights, the goal of this game is to obtain as many gold coins as possible and fend off the attacking fish for as long as you can with an occasional splash of water in your boat. A meter will also be displayed at the top of the screen to show you how far a shark is from you, the closer the shark gets the faster you will need to paddle. The Survivor can rock out any time you like which is very funny at times, all you do is tap the head of the survivor on the shark distance meter and he will pick up his paddle guitar and give you a show. There is also a tilt function for riding the waves which comes in handy when you stumble across a fortune. The mini challenge in this game keeps you on your toes, if you happen to drop into the water you will have to swim up to your boat. Be careful though there are bombs in the water that you will have to avoid by tilting around them as you swim back up.
The Rundown
Basic graphics keep Waves: Survivor running fluidly and smooth even with the awesome wave mechanics. Audio can get annoying at times when fighting off fish but not so much to not make you want to play. Using the posting function for Facebook and Twitter is hesitant and slow and loading time for the game takes a good 20 seconds, not bad though for a one time load. I would not mind seeing some better graphics in an update and maybe a story line or a challenge threw out the days more or less something like “Overnight a ship passed by and dropped off some coins a hundred yards ahead try to obtain them”
Overall this game is very entertaining and challenging. Would I recommend this game? Yes, I give it a 3 out of 5.
