LogMeIn Ignition remote PC access application review

LogMeIn Ignition brings remote PC access from your Windows or Mac to your Iphone or Ipod Touch. This application is available now, and offers a clean, simple user interface that automatically syncs to your online LogMeIn account. I was very pleased to learn that the application does work with the LogMeIn Free service that I have installed on a few computers, both Mac and PC in my network.

You can change the login credentials to access different accounts.  It would be a nice feature if future revisions had the ability to store and save multiple LogMeIn accounts, but it's not available yet. The only option that is available from the login screen is to delete one or all logins from Cache.

Login is very straight forward, much like the web browser LogMein.com method to connect to a remote computer.  If you are connecting to a Windows compatible PC, you are asked by LogMeIn if you wish to pass along login credentials to the remote session. This is a very nice feature that just takes away one step

of having to scroll around, bring up the virtual keyboard just to log in. Unfortunately this feature is not applied if you are logging into a remote Mac OSX machine.

The first time you use LogMeIn Ignition, you will realize that the mouse control is set to scroll to a point on screen and not click like a touch screen terminal. It took a little while to get used to the fact you drag the remote screen under a stationary mouse pointer, and click with a simple tap. You now have remote access to your pc without too much technical complication.

Login from a WiFi connection is as fast as a desktop PC web interface and screen updates on my connection were rendering at approximately 5 FPS. I have and do use this application regularly, so I can confirm that it is a very usefull application and one of the apps that I have on my first home screen. Right click is a simple task, all LogMeIn ignition requires is for a small icon representing the mouse to toggle between left and right mouse buttons. You can bring up the on- screen keyboard at any time, and function keys as well as system wide keystrokes usch as control alt delete and Windows Key commands.

You can configure LogMeIn Ignition to render screen resolution and quality to help speed the connection up, and it does support multiple monitors.Screen magnification can be achieved either by click on the magnification glass or using the native pinch and push teqniques that are common in iPhone and iPod Touch interfaces. The software also allows for screen rotation, which really is a must as the aspect ratio portrait mode does not fit well for remote access.

Mouse response and keyboard were quick and accurate and I have no issue completing tasks, and using the LogMeIn service as I would on a web browser.

As a whole, LogMeIn Ignition is a very good, well written application, and although the price of $29.99 is a little high, it is well worth the investment if you absolutely have to have remote access from anywhere. Cellular connectivity did work, but LogMeIn Ignitiion really benefits from a WiFI connection. I did have a few crashes, most of the time during logging into a system, but a restart of the iPhone would correct these issues.
